HRH The Earl of Wessex will officially opens the National Civil War Centre in the restored Old Magnus Building and handle Nottinghamshire’s very own crown jewel.

The centre created by Newark and Sherwood District Council is the first in the UK telling the complete story of the deadly 17th century British Civil Wars when crown and parliament clashed.

HRH will tour the galleries and see how the Grade II* building – which dates to 1529 – was rescued as part of the £5.4m project. 

He will also inspect a majestic golden 2,000 year old Iron Age necklace – or Torc – found near Newark and now on public display, before unveiling a plaque in the Tudor Hall to mark the occasion.

Royal Visit to Doncaster Business!

HRH The Duke of York with Bridon Group CEO Jonathan Templeman

His Royal Highness Prince Andrew visits Doncaster based wire and rope manufacturer Bridon International.

The Duke of York visited the factory so as to better understand Bridon’s offer to international customers and more effectively promote their products and services overseas.

During the visit the Duke toured the wire mill and attended a presentation by CEO Jon Templeman who highlighted the technical complexity or wire rope manufacture and showcased how it’s innovation supports and drives progress in a range of sectors across the globe.

After unveiling a commemorative plaque and signing the visitors book the Duke spent time chatting to staff.

The Duchess of Cornwall Opens New Hospital Wards

The Duchess of Cornwall

The Duchess of Cornwall has officially opened three new wards at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

During her visit on Friday she toured the new facilities at the Calow based hospital meeting staff and chatting to patients before pulling a cord to unveil a plaque marking the opening of the £12 million pound Hasland, Elmton and Ridgeway wards.

Whilst giving a short speech after her tour the Duchess commented on the “lovely atmosphere, feeling of welcome and patient care” the hospital gave describing the facility as a ‘wonderful place’

The Hasland, Elmton and Ridgeway Wards are the trust’s largest development since it gained foundation status in 2005

The featured image is of  HRH Princess Anne emerging from Harworth Colliery, North Nottinghamshire after a visit in September 2009.

The Princess Royal dressed in overalls, hardhat and protective glasses travelled more than 2 miles underground to visit coalminers working on the coal face.
